You won't find Australian Grown Coffee at Woolworths or most other supermarkets, this is why small coffee roasters like Mikro have to do our bit to support Australian coffee farmers and help them get rewarded for their hard work and raise awareness about Australian Coffee.

This coffee is farmed by Plum Murat, farmer in Mareeba with rich farming experience and knowledge of the land and climate of his area 🚜.

The Murat family decided to commit everything they learned and earned from farming Australian land in to growing quality coffee. No expense was spared in setting up their coffee plantation and their coffee washing, drying and sorting shed.

We visited Jack Murat coffee farm in June 2022, 2 days before their coffee harvest has officially begun and learned all about their family estate, their growing and harvesting as well as processing and storage techniques and we were very impressed by the dedication Plum Murat and his family have for growing premium quality coffee in Australia.

Difference Between Australian Grown Coffee and Brazilian Coffee

Australia is not a major coffee producing country, and the coffee grown in Australia is mostly produced for domestic consumption. On the other hand, Brazil is the largest coffee producing country in the world, responsible for around one-third of global coffee production.

In terms of taste, Australian grown coffee tends to be characterized by a bright and fruity acidity, with flavours that can range from chocolatey to citrusy. Brazilian coffee, on the other hand, is known for its milder, nuttier taste with a lower acidity level. Brazilian coffee is often used as a base for espresso blends due to its smooth and well-balanced flavour profile, however we find that Australian grown coffee is very similar in taste and profile to a good Brazilian grown coffee.

However, it's important to note that there can be a lot of variation in the taste of coffee, even within the same country, due to factors such as growing conditions and processing methods. So while Australian and Brazilian coffees may have certain general characteristics, there can still be a wide range of flavours and qualities within each country's coffee production.
